Musa isn’t wrong about Dr M, but he’s not innocent, too

YOURSAY | ‘Those who came before the ‘good doctor’ have much to answer for as well.’
Mojo Jojo: Sorry, former deputy prime minister Musa Hitam, but whatever you say, one thing still remains: you were part of the establishment that practised race-based politics and policies, and you did nothing to reverse this increasingly worrying trend during and after your time in government.
In so many ways, you are like ex-international trade and industry minister Rafidah Aziz and the group of eminent Malaysians (G25) who sound the loudest when out of office - all the while remaining meek as mice when they were within.
Undoubtedly, the man who has sat on the PM's velvet cushion for the longest would need to answer for much of the follies that befall this country today.
However, those who came before the ‘good doctor’, have much to answer for as well.
After the first premier Tunku Abdul Rahman expelled Dr Mahathir Mohamad from Umno, who was it that gave this political exile a new lease of life in politics - knowing full well what the doctor stood for when he penned ‘The Malay Dilemma’?
Yes, you guessed it; the father of the man who has everything to hide, and the man currently facing the twilight of his struggling political career as PM.
Fair Play: How tragic for the rakyat. The good doctor - for all his medical training - could not see, much less diagnose a ‘prescriptive’ cure for the symptoms that are slowly but surely driving the nation into a failed state any day now, as a result of his actions.
Joe Lee: Musa is not wrong about Mahathir, but the question is: what has Musa done about it ever since? The answer is “very little”, with the exception of some ‘brave’ comments now and then.
So it’s all pretty much useless in the end.
Hamzah Paiman: Well said, Musa. Malaysia should learn from Singapore. Lee Kuan Yew had groomed second echelon leaders way before he resigned as prime minister. He loved his country more than his post.
In our case, we only had a man who led for 22 years and did things only for the benefit of himself and his cronies.
That is why Singapore is where it is today, while we are struggling and being laughed at by other third world countries.
J Yeoh: Happy belated birthday wishes to YB Lim Kit Siang. I always admire and respect you for your sacrifices towards a cause that is so noble, yet unrewarding.
You are a true statesman and I am so happy and hopeful to know that you have inspired many young and good people to join you in this struggle.
May God bless you and comrades with courage, wisdom and good health.
James TCLow: Patriotism isn't about securing the highest political office of a country. What if the leader is corrupt or dictatorial, and has been working towards the destruction of the fabric that binds us together?
Being patriotic is being able to endure the insults and hardship that may come your way, despite one's steadfast belief in one's noble vision for the country he/she calls home.
To some people, it may be a thankless job to fight for a cause with little successes in sight.
But such is the will of a principled person with a strong belief that they shall succeed one day, even if the day comes when he/she is no longer around.
Anonymous 2341761439455664: Happy Birthday to you, sir. You can be sure that there are many who have the same wish as you.
However, not many will make the sacrifices that you have made - and still continue to make. We are all proud of you, and history will judge you as a great man in Malaysia’s politics.
Amidst the dirty and corrupt political arena, you are one of the very few who are beacons of hope.
Apa nama: Kit Siang, your dream of a “Malaysian Malaysia” will come true, but probably not in the near future. We need to wait a few more years to realise that - since the majority of Malaysians are still “sleeping in complacency”.
Appum: My wish for you, Lim Kit Siang? That Umno would grudgingly realise your patriotism and stop demonising you and your party.
Ghostwhowalks: Lim Kit Siang, you have fought a good battle. Keep it up, mate, as your old friend in Canberra would have said - rest assured that the rakyat will be behind you all the way.
Have a great birthday... cheers! -Mkini
