Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today visited the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping mall to get a first-hand look at the joint police and armed forces security patrol in the city.
He spent about 45 minutes at the mall. Accompanying him were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and chief of defence forces Gen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin.
The police and armed forces 24-hour joint patrol was launched on January 20 after the National Security Council decided on the security measure under the National Blue Ocean Strategy following militant attacks in several major cities around the world.
Khalid said the police and armed forces decided to continue with the patrol until such time it was felt that it was no longer necessary.
He said 170 policemen and 170 soldiers were involved in the patrol at public places in the city.
Zulkifeli said the patrol was carried out to step up security and instil confidence in the people and foreign tourists on their safety following militant attacks in some cities abroad. – Bernama
