Tram service for Putrajaya, Cyberjaya by 2019

Tengku Adnan says trams are cheaper than the monorail, expects EPU to issue request for proposals soon.

PUTRAJAYA: A tram service is expected to operate in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya within three years to improve the public transport system, Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today.
The trams would be a replacement for a planned 18km monorail project which was abandoned in mid-2004 for lack of funding.
Tengku Adnan said the tram service would be cheaper. “I had a discussion with the National Economic Council recently where we see the tram as a solution to the abandoned monorail project,” he told reporters.
The tram service is a suitable alternative to overcome traffic congestion in the two areas which are experiencing rapid increase in population.
Tengku Adnan expects the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) to issue a request for proposals from companies interested in the construction of the tram system.
On another note, he said the ministry has installed closed circuit television cameras at 152 blocks in Putrajaya to increase the level of security in the government administration district.
“The CCTV cameras will be operated by the community of the respective blocks. This will improve cooperation between them and help to maintain security in their respective housing areas.”
