GKCM will lobby branch meetings to submit motions for Najib’s resignation as Umno president and for party elections to be held next month.
PETALING JAYA: The Coalition of Umno Branch Chiefs Malaysia (GKCM) will pressure party branches to submit motions for Prime Minister and party president Najib Razak’s resignation and the holding of fresh party elections.
According to a report in The Malaysian Insider (GKCM) vice-president Rushdan Mohamed said the group would do this in March, when Umno branches across the country hold their meetings.
“GKCM is targeting 20 to 30 branches per division to raise the motion. Once enough branches do it, we hope it will reach the division level and be debated,” he was quoted as saying, adding most Umno members did not want Najib as their leader. He said the group had gone on numerous road shows nationwide to garner support for their cause.
Meanwhile, former Keliang Umno Youth chief Moohamad Faizal Abdul Raub said many branches in his area could no longer operate as the wings leaders resigned en masse recently.
