(MMO) – In a stunning disclosure today, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad claimed that Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah was among several Umno leaders secretly rooting to oust Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak but switched camps after failing to secure support from other pivotal players.
Popularly known as Ku Li, the seasoned Gua Musang MP caused a stir within the local political scene when pictures spread online showing him and several other Kelantan Umno lawmakers signing a document pledging loyalty to Najib that was dubbed the “Kelantan Declaration” by another party colleague.
“He came and met me, and said he wants to push for a no-confidence vote. He said he can get the majority but he failed,” Dr Mahathir a news conference here.
“I even went and met (representatives) from Sarawak under his instructions,” he claimed.
However, Dr Mahathir added that Tengku Razaleigh “changed his stance” after failing to win over other elected representatives.
“He started the move to have a no-confidence vote and ended up declaring support to the same person,” the retired prime minister said.
