2 die, 6 hurt in pile-up near Slim River

Accident occurs along North-South Expressway when a lorry travelling north goes out of control and veers onto the opposite lane, crashing into seven other vehicles.

IPOH: Two people died and nine others were injured, six of them badly, in an accident involving eight vehicles on the south-bound lane of the North-South Expressway near the exit to Slim River today.

Intan Maizura Aidul Badri, 34, and Ridzuan Abdul Rajak, 33, died in the accident which occurred at 3.30pm at Km371.9 of the highway, a police source said.

The source said the victims’ bodies and the six badly injured were taken to the Slim River Hospital.

The source said four cars and four lorries were involved in the accident.

“A lorry travelling north went out of control and veered onto the opposite lane and crashed into the other vehicles,” the source said when contacted.

The north-bound right lane at the stretch was closed following the accident and traffic movement slowed down, the source said. -FMT
