The general elections is expected to be held soon, but just how soon remains a mystery even to Umno leaders it seems.
Jamil Khir Baharom, who is on Umno's supreme council, said no one knows when the elections will be held "except the prime minister and God."
"So don't ask me. What is certain is that the elections is in the future, and will be held in June 2018 at the latest," Jamil Khir said at the Overseas Umno Club alumni annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur, today.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak told the Umno general assembly earlier this month that elections will be held soon, but has remained coy on the date.
The elections are expected to feature multiple corner fights with BN taking on the alliance of Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu, as well as PAS.
PAS lawmaker Mahfuz Omar said PAS should ensure political survival by working out a pact to avoid clashes with Umno at the polls.
Mahfuz said this would ensure that Umno and PAS do not squabble over the same support base.
Jamil, however, declined to comment on this when met after the Umno Overseas Club alumni event, saying it was "lunch time."
Fellow Umno supreme council member Ismail Sabri Yaakob also refused to comment on this.
"Let the prime minister decide on this. If I answer wrongly I'm dead," Ismail said at a separate press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.- Mkini
