(Malaysia Outlook) - Erring PKR’s Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli got it wrong yet again.
The Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) today clarified that the RM21bil cost for the Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) MRT Line mentioned by Prime Minister Najib Razak was for the entire 51km SBK line, phases 1 and 2 of the project.
“Rafizi’s statement is totally incorrect,” said the company.
In a statement on Saturday, the company said total cost for the line was based on the completion of the procurement process and the adoption of a stringent mechanism to control variation orders and claims.
The company was responding to a recent statement by Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli claiming that the sum of RM21bil was only for phase 1.
Phase1 of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line covers 12 stations and spans 21km from Sungai Buloh to Semantan.
Phase 2 of the SBK Line, which is expected to be completed by July next year, includes a 9.5km underground section from Semantan to Maluri, and a 20.5km elevated section from Maluri to Kajang.
Four years ago, Rafizi claimed at a press conference that “internal sources” had informed him that the whole project had ballooned to RM100 billion, which now proven to be false news.
