PETALING JAYA: President Donald Trump’s controversial ban on travellers from several Muslim-majority countries does not include Malaysia, the US embassy in Kuala Lumpur says.
“Malaysia is not on the list of countries affected by the Executive Order,” the statement said, referring to the Trump administration’s announcement on Friday which sparked outrage among rights groups in the US and abroad.
Trump said he was suspending the entry of people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for at least three months, a halt on refugees for four months, and an indefinite ban on Syrians.
The US embassy statement comes after a claim that Malaysia was affected by the order, following reports that a Malaysian was among more than 70 travellers detained at the New York airport today.
“Malaysians can continue to travel to the United States with a valid visa,” the embassy said, adding that Washington would continue allowing legitimate visitors from abroad “while ensuring the security of US borders”. -FMT
