IGP denies officers flew to Macau with Jong-nam's DNA samples

Inspector-general Khalid Abu Bakar has denied news reports claiming that his officers went to Macau with DNA samples from Kim Jong-nam as well as to obtain samples from his son Kim Han-sol.
"Not true. We did not send any samples anywhere.
"We (also) did not receive any DNA sample from any country. That is not true," he told reporters when met after the Kuala Lumpur police Chinese New Year open house.
Yesterday, China Press and Sin Chew Daily reported that Jong-nam's son had agreed to provide a DNA sample to Malaysian police.
Sin Chew Daily reported that three Malaysian Interpol officers flew to Macau with Jong Nam's DNA sample, which would be analysed together with the sample provided by his son at a local hospital.
The reports, which quoted sources, were highlighted by the Singapore's Straits Times and several international media organisations.
Han-sol was speculated to arrive in Malaysia earlier this week but Khalid had yesterday dismissed the reports as mere rumour.

He also said that while Malaysian police had consistently referred to the man as Kim Chol, DNA from Jong-nam's next of kin was required to confirm the body's identity.
Despite demands from North Korea, Malaysia have said that the body which was taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur mortuary will only be released to a next-of-kin.
Jong-nam died on Feb 13 after an unidentified substance was smeared on his face by a woman at KLIA2.- Mkini
