The ex-convict had entered the surau dressed as a woman to steal.
PETALING JAYA: An unemployed man, who had dressed up as a woman, was sentenced to eight months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for stealing a purse from a woman praying in a surau.
Mohamad Firdaus Abdullah, 21, pleaded guilty to the offence committed at the woman’s surau of the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre here at 9.40pm on Feb 18.
He stole the purse from Nur Damia Syahirah Rany, 22, who was then praying inside the surau.
The purse contained her identity card, a condominium access card, bank cards, a handphone and RM408.30.
Firdaus, who was released from prison two weeks ago for a similar offence, was ordered to serve the sentence from today by magistrate Atiqah Abd Karim.
Firdaus, who was unrepresented, told the court he was an orphan. -FMT
