Umno Youth to submit protest note to N Korean embassy

The murder of King Jong-nam has created diplomatic friction between Malaysia and North Korea, with both sides trading accusations.

Tomorrow, Umno Youth would lead a delegation to submit a memorandum of protest to the North Korean embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

In a text message to Malaysiakini, Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun confirmed that he would be spearheading the group, which would also see the participation of BN Youth and other youth organisations.

The gathering is slated for 4pm.

However, Khairul declined to elaborate, saying he would answer all questions tomorrow.

Tension between Putrajaya and Pyongyang took a turn for the worse, when North Korean ambassador Kang Chol insinuated that Malaysia had something to conceal.

Following this, Wisma Putra dismissed the insinuation as baseless and summoned the ambassador, while the Malaysian envoy to Pyongyang was recalled.

Kang Chol continued to issue hard-hitting statements, stating that North Korea did not trust the investigations carried out by Malaysian authorities.

This prompted Foreign Minister Anifah Aman to accuse the North Korean ambassador of making allegations based on “lies and half truths”.

Weighing in, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak also rebuked the ambassador for being “diplomatically rude.”

This afternoon, the embassy fired another salvo, casting aspersion on the police's investigations, demanding the release of the two female suspects and a North Korean citizen as well as accusing Putrajaya of insulting Pyongyang.- Mkini
