IGP: Missing activist spotted crossing into Thailand

Former Petaling Jaya city councillor Peter Chong, who is reportedly missing, was spotted crossing into Thailand in a bus, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said today.
"I wish to confirm that Chong was detected crossing into Thailand at 6.30am on April 7.
"We have a photo of him crossing the Bukit Kayu Hitam border aboard a bus," Khalid told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.
Khalid said there was no record of Chong crossing back into Malaysia, but police were working with their Thai counterparts on the case.
He hoped that Chong would contact his family to let them know that he is in good condition.
Chong was reported missing last Saturday. He was last seen leaving his condominium in Kuala Lumpur on April 5.
Chong is the fifth missing persons case to be reported since the abduction of Pastor Raymond Koh two months ago.
Khalid said it was not clear why Chong went to Thailand.
"We don't know if he had debts and was running away from it, or what," he said.
He warned that police would take action if Chong purposely tried to confuse the force into thinking that he was abducted.
Public warned not to create confusion
Khalid also warned the people not to create confusion about the four missing cases, pointing out that only one - Koh - was a confirmed abduction.
The rest, he said, were classified as missing persons cases and police do not believe they are related.
"I also see certain parties, including the Bar Council, that are concerned about the missing cases. But they're not the only ones who are concerned. Aren't we concerned? We are more concerned," he added.
Overall, he said, police were still dealing with more than 5,000 cases of missing persons at the moment.
He said police were also investigating the case of a Singaporean businessman beating a dog in Kuala Lumpur.

"Abuse of animals is a crime, so we will investigate," he added.
In a video clip that went viral, Terry Yee, 30, is seen attacking the dog after it rushed at him while he was cycling and caused him to fall.
Apart from punching and kicking the dog, Yee had also repeatedly hit it with a helmet.
Over the weekend, a group of people held a protest in Puchong, demanding that the authorities take action against Yee.
Yee has since apologised for his action.- Mkini
