‘Mat Rempit’ killed in Ipoh crash, motorist assaulted

Police say the teenager was part of a group of motorcyclists taking part in illegal racing at 4am.

IPOH: A motorist was set upon by a group of Mat Rempit and assaulted after a motorcyclist was killed in an accident here today.
Perak Traffic Police Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief DSP Mohd Mahiri Hussin said the motorist, Thean Weng Sin, 21, later sought treatment for head and body injuries at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
Mahiri identified the dead motorcyclist as Muhammad Zulhilmi, 19, from Sungai Siput. He died instantly after collision with the car driven by Thean.
He said the motorcyclist was believed to be part of a group of Mat Rempit taking part in an illegal motorcycle race on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here about 4am.
Meanwhile, a motorist was killed when his car was involved in a collision with a Perak Transit bus at the 41.8km Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Kangsar, about 30km from here this morning.
Mohd Farhan Razali, 24, from Kuala Kangsar, died on the spot in the 8.30am crash. He sustained head and body injuries.
Sungai Siput police chief Supt Abd Fatah Abd Rahman said the incident occurred when the victim who was driving a Perodua Myvi from Ipoh  lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the oncoming bus.
He said the impact of the crash left Farhan trapped in his wrecked vehicle.
Bus driver, Abdul Samat Abu Hashim, 55, fractured a finger, conductor N Krishnan Vanni, 57, broke his right hand while two bus passengers were slightly injured in the accident.
The injured sought treatment at the Sungai Siput Hospital. -FMT
