They say this will allow them to bargain for a better price from petroleum producers.
PETALING JAYA: The Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) wants the government to release retail fuel prices to the association two days before the weekly fuel prices are announced.
NST Online quoted its president, Khairul Annuar, as stating that this would allow petroleum dealers to bargain for a better price from petroleum producers.
“We got this idea from our Moroccan counterparts during a conference with international petroleum dealers yesterday. We hope we can emulate their method.
“We can accept the system where retail prices of petroleum and diesel are set every Wednesday. But we hope we can get the information on the price change two days earlier, on Monday.
“The price of fuel has gone down three weeks in a row now. This is too much for us to handle. We suffer big losses due to the price drop,” he told the daily.
Khairul said PDAM has yet to meet with the domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism ministry to discuss a new formula to determine retail prices of fuel.
“We have several proposals and we hope the ministry will have a session with us soon.”
Earlier today, minister Hamzah Zainudin said the weekly announcements on fuel prices would continue.
He said the ministry had met oil companies to discuss the best way to help petrol station operators. -FMT
