The "German F&B Festival" at a mall in Klang may proceed as scheduled because organisers had obtained permission from the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), said Selangor senior exco member Teng Chang Khim.
MPK had greenlit the event on Sept 28, but the official correspondence has been delayed to seek clarity from the police on their position.
However, Teng stressed that the police could not ban a lawful commercial event.
"Yes, they (organisers) will proceed because they have a temporary permit from MPK, dated Sept 28. MPK had imposed 20 conditions and imposed an RM400 fee.
"However, they have yet to pay because MPK is delaying the permit, due to (recent) statements by the police. We'll have to see how it goes," Teng told a press conference today.
In a letter to the event organiser dated Sept 14, North Klang district deputy police chief Nor Omar Sappi said the police had "no objections" to the said event and "supported" the organiser's application.

However, North Klang district police chief Mazelan Paijan said on Saturday that there was no such letter and that the police will not allow the event to take place because alcoholic beverages will be served.
Teng disputed this and claimed that the police had urged the event organisers to "return" the Sept 14 correspondence and that there were no correspondences stating their objections to the event.
He believed that the police had a change of heart due to pressure following statements made by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"They can't be performing Taiji. They must be professional. If there are no problems, especially since this is not the first time the event has been held, just approve it.
"Don't be afraid of pressure from anyone. To me, when the deputy prime minister made the statement, he was under pressure from certain political parties," said Teng.

Earlier today, inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun (photo) said the police cannot pull the plug on the event as the proper authority was the local government.
However, he said the police will advise the appropriate authorities against greenlighting the "German F&B Festival" because there was a "real threat".- Mkini
