Lajim slams critics for ‘lying about bankruptcy’

Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president Lajim Ukin says political rivals ignoring annulment of bankruptcy order.

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president Lajim Ukin prefers to ignore and be patient with the various lies and defamations thrown at him by his political enemies.

He said this includes the bankruptcy issue made against him by the High Court on Sept 14 which is still being used by unscrupulous people who have kept spreading it despite the notice having been annulled on Sept 21.

“As a veteran politician, being in this field for more than 30 years, I have never been discouraged by defamation, calumnies or anything aimed at breaking my spirit.

“What these people are doing, what they are spreading over social media, they do not hurt me. I am not the only person that has been declared a bankrupt and certainly not the last one.

“Maybe one day they will find themselves in the same situation. We never know, so I think better don’t rejoice over it,” he said when met after attending the party’s Beaufort division delegates meeting on Sunday.

Lajim was re-elected the division chief through a special motion forwarded by the attending delegates.

He said the move was necessary because even though the party’s lawyer and deputy resident Maijol Mahap had both said that Lajim did not lose the presidency, they did not want to take chances and let Lajim’s position be questioned come election time.

“Someone could easily contact the Registrar of Societies (RoS) and complain that I have lost the presidency because of the bankruptcy issue. We must close that window because it could disrupt our chances if such a complaint is made during election time,” he said.

In another development, Lajim, who is Klias assemblyman, said the party had explained to the Sabah state assembly speaker regarding the annulment of the bankruptcy issue.

However, he said he has not heard anything from the speaker’s office and believes any decision will be announced during the state budget meeting next month.

“I leave it to the speaker to determine my position as an assemblyman. However, I am very confident that I have not lost my seat based on the existing rules,” he said.

Lajim is also Sabah opposition leader in the state assembly. -FMT
