Dr Mahathir Mohamad says he knows the mysterious individual who allegedly offered Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman RM5 million to leave the party.
However, Mahathir said he is not close to the man, identified as “H”.
"Yes I know him. But during my time such a person was not in Umno or any departments of my administration.
"These people exist to serve their masters," the former prime minister was quoted as saying by Sinar Online.
Syed Saddiq had claimed previously that an aide to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who he referred to only as “H”, offered him RM5 million in cash to quit the party and further his studies at Oxford University.
However Najib's political secretary Tengku Sarifuddin Tengku Ahmad said that there was no individual who fit Syed Saddiq’s description of "H" working for the Prime Minister’s Office. Mkini
