Parti Warisan Sabah deputy president Darell Leiking said the church is a place for truth and not falsehood.
He said this in response to Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (photo) who reportedly asked Christians not to spread fake news in churches.
"As a sacred house of worship, the church is not a place to lie or spread bad news.
"It is a place of worship, for truth, peace and most of all for the enhancement of our spiritual faith and to honour our obligations to God," Darell said in a statement today.
He added that claims that fake news is being circulated in churches were an insult to Christians.
"When I am in church, my family and I face our maker and yes, we pray for any cruel regime to be replaced.
The truth is we can see how displaced our citizens have become. How corruption has flourished under this regime and most of all how the people of Sabah and all other citizens of the Federation of Malaysia have been marginalised.
"Their rights have been put aside simply to pay for the corrupt acts of those who allow it to fester and flourish," Darell said.
Tengku Adnan, better known as Ku Nan, later claimed his statement was misconstrued.- Mkini
