Pekan Umno has warned Dr Mahathir Mohamad that there is widespread dissatisfaction towards him in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's parliamentary constituency in Pahang.
Therefore, the former prime minister has been advised to cancel his scheduled visit to the area tomorrow afternoon.
"I think it's better if the programme can be cancelled. There are going to be problems, there will be fights," Pekan Umno division committee member Abdul Rahim Yahya told Malaysiakini.
Rahim said many youths in the area have approached him about Mahathir's visit and they were planning to do “many things”.
"Even the police say it's better not to have the programme," he added.
Rahim, who is also Pekan Umno's Felda welfare bureau chief, said the local people were dissatisfied with Mahathir because he had "lied to the settlers" during his time as prime minister.
"He lied about giving shares and in the end, the settlers could not get their shares," he claimed.
Rahim also claimed that no permission was obtained by the organisers to hold Mahathir's programme in the area.
"They didn't get Felda's permission. I have already checked and there is none," he added.
Pahang Pakatan Harapan chairperson Fauzi Abdul Rahman had confirmed that Mahathir would arrive in the Chini area on the afternoon of Feb 28, before going on a walkabout at the Orang Asli settlement.
Mahathir would also be speaking at a ceramah in the Chini area at night.
According to Fauzi, the former prime minister was invited to speak by Chini's Felda settlers.
Other Harapan leaders who are scheduled to attend the event are Pahang Amanah chief Hamzah Jaafar, state DAP chairperson Leong Ngah Ngah, Pahang Bersatu leader Wan Mohd Shahrir Wan Abdul Jalil and National Felda Settlers' Children's Association (Anak) chairperson Mazlan Aliman.- Mkini
