Putrajaya mulls introducing esports in schools

Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan said Putrajaya is mulling introducing esports as part of the curriculum in public schools.
He said he was open to the proposal, which is being drafted by the Youth and Sports Ministry.
"I was informed that the Youth and Sports Ministry is planning and preparing a module which will be presented to our ministry. The Education Ministry is open to any suggestion.
"In my opinion, the school curriculum should be able to change and improve in accordance with the times," he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani.

Kamalanathan said his ministry will discuss the matter with the Youth and Sports Ministry and determine the best way to introduce esports, be it as a subject or as a co-curricular activity.
The deputy minister made the revelation after he was asked about a similar move in Indonesia, where even scholarships are offered to those who excelled in esports.
In the meantime, Kamalanathan said schools can set up esports clubs.
"They are encouraged to set up an e-sports club, but we do understand that there are some constraints such as finance and other aspects," he was quoted as saying.- Mkini
