REALLY, SALLEH – BUT THE QUESTION IS WILL NAJIB DECLARE EMERGENCY AFTER GE14 TO AVOID PASSING POWER TO DR M & CO? MINSTER INSISTS NAJIB ‘WILL NEVER DECLARE EMERGENCY JUST TO STAY IN POWER BY NOT CALLING FOR GE14’ BUT MUM ON WHAT HAPPENS IF BN LOSES GE14

Today, Malaysiakini reported that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad asked Malaysians to take to the streets if Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak declares an emergency to avoid calling for GE14. According to Shad Saleem Faruqi, Emeritus Professor of Law at UiTM, Najib cannot declare an emergency. He can only advise the Agong to do so and His Majesty need not take this advise.

Even more important, while Mahathir wanted to transfer the power of declaring an emergency from the Agong to the Prime Minister in 1983, but failed, Najib is not a dictator who would do such a thing. So Mahathir’s advise to Malaysians to take to the streets is misplaced, as Najib will never declare an emergency just to stay in power by avoiding calling for GE14.

Furthermore, Mahathir is assuming that Pakatan Harapan is going to win GE14, which is the reason why Najib would declare an emergency to avoid calling for GE14. Has it not occurred to Mahathir that Barisan Nasional and not Pakatan Harapan is going to win GE14? So why the need to declare an emergency for Najib to stay in power by avoiding GE14?
