Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he has no immediate plans to touch base with US president Donald Trump whom he described as "a person who changes his mind overnight".
"I don't know how to work with a person who changes his mind overnight.
"For example, he wants to meet the president of N Korea, then he says he doesn't want to meet him and now he is saying that maybe the meeting is going to happen," he was quoted as saying by the Financial Times today.
Mahathir was referring to Trump's much-touted meeting with N Korean leader Kim Jong Un which was originally scheduled for next month in Singapore.
The meeting would have been the first-ever meeting between a serving US president and a N Korean leader.
Last Thursday, Trump had abruptly called off the historic summit with Kim, citing North Korea's "open hostility" despite N Korea following through on a pledge to blow up tunnels at its nuclear test site.
However, on Friday, Trump indicated the meeting could be salvaged after welcoming a conciliatory statement from Pyongyang.
"We are talking to them now. They very much want to do it. We'd like to do it," he had said.
Mahathir's predecessor, Najib Abdul Razak, had sought a close relationship with Trump, even visiting the president at the White House in September last year and playing a round of golf with him. - Mkini
