Inspector-general of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun (above) explained that the withdrawal of former premier Najib Abdul Razak's aides and bodyguards was in keeping with a former prime minister's status.
Asked to confirm that all of Najib's aides and bodyguards were withdrawn except for his aide-de-camp, Fuzi denied this and said that as a former prime minister, Najib was still eligible for certain security perks.
"We are retaining his aide-de-camp as well as Datin Seri's (Rosmah Mansor) aide-de-camp. A few bodyguards and drivers are also retained.
"But, of course, we are scaling down (the team)," Fuzi told reporters at Bukit Aman tonight after a buka puasa do.
As such, Fuzi stressed that it was not true that the services of all of Najib's security staff had been revoked.
"No, not everyone. We will retain (some) according to the standard operating procedure," he said.
Najib tonight claimed that most of his bodyguards and security staff had been withdrawn by the new Pakatan Harapan government.
"In the last few weeks, all the security personnel, police escorts and assistants assigned to me were withdrawn by the new government except for one aide-de-camp," he said in a Facebook post.
Najib said he bade farewell to several of these staff today who included bodyguards, Special Action Unit personnel, police escorts and other staff who were either assigned to the Prime Minister's Office or to the prime minister's official residence.
Najib also shared (above) photographs of their emotional parting on his Facebook page. -Mkini
