The PM's wife wants wellwishers to donate to the charity of their choice.
PETALING JAYA: The prime minister’s wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, today pleaded with the public to stop sending her and Dr Mahathir Mohamad gifts, following Pakatan Harapan’s win in the recently-concluded polls.
In a short statement, issued by daughter Marina on her behalf, Siti Hasmah said the current government believes that no politician should be allowed to receive gifts other than flowers or food.
“As modest as the gifts might be, they do take up a lot of space,” she said, adding this included gifts for the coming Raya celebrations.
Earlier, Siti Hasmah revealed that since PH came to power two weeks ago, she had received so many congratulatory messages which were accompanied by flowers, food and other gifts.
Siti Hasmah said she would prefer that the donors and wellwishers contribute to the charity of their choice.
Marina also mentioned that her parents preferred to stay on at their present home instead of moving into Seri Perdana, the official residence of the prime minister. -FMT
