Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has maintained that he had no knowledge about one of his departments sending a letter to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) prior to the May 9 general election.
However, he said such matters should have remained as government secrets.
"I don't know (about the letter), it was done by our intelligence agency. It is not our policy to reveal such letters.
"This is a government secret. If we reveal it, it means nothing can be considered a government secret," Najib told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
Previously, Malaysiakini reported that the letter was penned by the Prime Minister's Department Research Division director-general Hasanah Ab Hamid.
It had sought US' support in the event BN wins the May 9 general election with a narrow margin.
Najib maintains he does not know what was in the letter, and that it would be a bad precedent for him to comment on such leaks, he said. - Mkini
