Najib: Gov't can cancel projects, but it makes no sense

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak says it is the government's prerogative to cancel projects, but that cancelling good ones such as the MRT circle line, or MRT3, made no sense.
"They should make it better, not cancel the project. It makes no sense.
"The government can cancel projects, but is it doing it for the right reasons? Are you doing it for Malaysians? These are questions we need to ask," Najib said at a dinner function at his Langgak Duta home tonight.
The dinner was held in conjunction with Najib's 65th birthday, which falls on July 23, as well as to honour the next of kin of those killed in the MH17 tragedy.
He added that Putrajaya should stop pointing fingers at his administration, and strive to do better so that the people who voted them in can get what they were promised.
The MRT3 project was scrapped by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in May.
It was previously estimated that the MRT3 would cost between RM40 billion and RM50 billion.
The circle line project was intended to link up the completed MRT1 running from Sungai Buloh to Kajang and the ongoing MRT2 running from Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya.
The reviewing of projects is part of the election manifesto promises which Pakatan Harapan promised to achieve within its first 100 days in office.
Najib said the 100 days were almost over, but questioned if the coalition could meet all 10 promises it had made.
"When I was prime minister, I only made promises I could fulfil," he said, adding that he did not want to lie to the people or answer to God for breaking his promise to them. - Mkini
