PKR MP: Image of S'gor gov't at stake, probe cronyism claims

A senior PKR leader has called on the leadership in Selangor to investigate allegations of cronyism and nepotism within the party as it could potentially damage the reputation of the state government.
Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul said while he was unaware of the exact allegations made by several Selangor PKR youth leaders who resigned from the party, there appear to be grounds for the state leadership to urgently investigate the matter.
"I have no information but based on what they said, I hope the Selangor government will investigate because the allegations made are quite serious.
"It (the allegations) involved not only the issue of (party's) image but there could be issues of financial misconduct or other related matters," Johari told reporters when met after a function at a hotel in Ampang to announce PKR deputy president post contender Rafizi Ramli's running mates in the upcoming party polls.
Johari said this when asked for comments on resignations of Selangor PKR Youth secretary Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman and Sabak Bernam PKR Youth chief Abdul Mutalib Ahmad out of dissatisfaction with the state party leadership.
Mutalib, who expressed unhappiness that none from Sabak Bernam Youth was appointed as a local councillor, yesterday claimed that "dirty tactics and cronyism have become cancer in the party" and therefore decided to resign from his posts on principle.
Earlier during the function, Johari was announced as a contender for PKR vice-president's post.
The PKR election will commence on Aug 24 over nine weeks with the results expected to be announced in November. - Mkini
