KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak got a firing from several government parliamentarians in his maiden speech in Parliament as an opposition lawmaker when debating the Agong’s decree.
Today is Najib’s first speech at Parliament since it began on July 16 under the administration of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
Speaking, some government parliamentarians also interjected including RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong).
Rayer asked Najib to clarify the 1MDB issue and the seized money and valuables in the former prime minister’s home.
Speaker, Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof then asked Rayer not to disturb Najib.
“YB please follow the rules,” he said.
Najib said he would assist Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as the opposition leader in the Dewan Rakyat.
The Pekan MP said that when BN was ruling before its 14th general election (GE14) defeat, the country’s economic situation was so strong.
He said he was worried about the fate of Felda under the PH government.
“Once PH is in government, they do not help the settlers, the settlers day is not welcomed.
“The PH Manifesto wants to cancel settlers’ debts in 100 days, but what has happened to this promise,” he said.
In PRU14, BN collapsed to the PH that formed the government when it won 121 parliamentary seats.
The coalition also managed to confiscate some new states other than Selangor and Penang. They captured Perak, Kedah, Sabah, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, and Melaka. – (GOOGLE TRANSLATE OF FMT STORY ‘Najib digasak hari pertama berucap sebagai pembangkang’ BELOW’
Ketika berucap, kelihatan beberapa ahli parlimen kerajaan turut mencelah termasuk RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong).
– FMT
KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Najib Razak made his inaugural debate speech in the Dewan Rakyat today, touching on a range of contentious issues, but carefully avoiding the 1MDB scandal which dominated his final years in office.
Najib, the Pekan MP, spoke on the economy, as well as the National Security Council, Felda and the goods and services tax (GST).
Sensing that 1MDB was missing from the speech, RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) stood up to interrupt Najib, and demanded the former leader to explain the stash of cash and jewellery found in his keep during police raids.
Rayer’s microphone was however turned off, as Najib had requested for no interruptions to his speech under Standing Order 31(7).
He said under Barisan Nasional, Felda settlers enjoyed benefits, including windfalls and bonuses.
“But after the new government took over, settlers were given less Hari Raya bonus, there were late payments and promises were not kept,” he said.
Najib also questioned the pledge in Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto to cancel debts related to Felda within 100 days in power, saying this had yet to be implemented.
He also denied a rumour that he had called for a National Security Council meeting on the night of polling day on May 9.
“(The rumours) are baseless. No meeting was called. I am a believer of democracy and rule of law, as there has also been a peaceful transfer of power.”
On GST, he again defended the consumption tax as the saviour of Malaysia’s economy, and warned that prices will go up once the sales and services tax was reintroduced by Putrajaya. – FMT
