Lawyers acting for Umno are seeking for details with regards to the police raid on properties linked to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
This in relation to Umno's claim to the haul though investigators believe it is linked to funds allegedly misappropriated from state-owned entities 1MDB and SRC International.
"Today, upon our client’s instruction, we have issued a letter to the Royal Malaysia Police to request for the relevant documents and information in relation to the seizure of approximately RM116.7 million claimed to be the actual amount seized by Royal Malaysian Police.
"We have given the Royal Malaysian Police a reasonable period of seven days to furnish the requested documents.
"Our client reiterates that substantial portion of the money seized belongs to Umno and has no relationship whatsoever with the cases of 1MDB or SRC," the legal team said in a statement today.
Police last month announced that the total haul from properties linked to Najib had a basic value of RM686.37 million and could go as high as RM1.1 billion on the market.
They included RM116.7 million cash in 26 currencies, 567 handbags, 423 watches and more than 10,000 pieces of jewellery.
Umno is laying claim to the cash portion of the haul.
The items were seized in a series of raids in May on Najib's Jalan Langgak Duta residence and three Pavilion Residences condominium units in Kuala Lumpur. -Mkini
