There are certain processes that have to be fulfilled before the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on alleged judicial misconduct can start, said Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The minister of Economic Affairs said this today to reporters when asked for an update on the RCI which the cabinet agreed last month to set up.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had on Feb 21 said the cabinet had agreed to the RCI to look into allegations of judicial misconduct made by Court of Appeal judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer.
"There are processes (to be followed)," Azmin said to a question on the absence of any update on the matter since Mahathir's announcement.
Hamid Sultan had filed an affidavit on Feb 14 in which he alleged that certain members of the judiciary had been aiding private parties to defraud the government.
It was claimed that the acts were done through nominees of politicians.
Two weeks ago, Sangeet Kaur Deo, lawyer and daughter of the late Karpal Singh, told the media that she would write a letter to Attorney-General Tommy Thomas to find out the status of the proposed royal commission of inquiry (RCI). - Mkini
