RANTAU POLLS | The stakes are high for PKR to win the Rantau by-election, says Rembau division chief R Tanggam.
"This by-election is about (PKR president) Anwar Ibrahim's pride, PKR's pride.
"If we lose we will be in trouble," Tanggam said at a meet and greet with reporters at Kampung Sendayan today.
Tanggam's deputy and Rantau candidate Dr S Streram struck a more optimistic note, however.
Asked about whether he felt burdened by Tanggam's remarks, Streram acknowledged being the "underdog" against acting Umno president Mohamad Hasan.
He nonetheless stressed that he will focus on working hard to win the by-election, rather than on whether losing would hurt Anwar or the party.
Streram also believes that PKR has a "60 to 70 percent" chance of emerging victorious in the April 13 polls.
PKR has thus far won all three of the by-elections it has contested.
Pakatan Harapan, however, has lost the last two polls in Cameron Highlands and Semenyih, heaping pressure on Anwar to secure a win for the coalition.
The Rantau by-election will see a four-cornered fight between Streram, Mohamad, and independent candidates R Malar and Mohd Nor Yasin. - Mkini
