Hunt for arsonists who tried to torch building in Sabah

The clip shows a man running away after setting fire to petrol outside an eatery on Jalan Bundusan in Penampang.

KOTA KINABALU: Police are on the hunt for several individuals involved in two attempts to torch a building on Jalan Bundusan in Penampang near here.

The first incident occurred on Dec 9 when three men were caught on a CCTV recording pouring petrol at the entrance of the eatery of the building on Jalan Bundusan.

One of the men was later seen setting fire to the petrol before running away in the clip, which has gone viral on social media.

Sabah deputy police chief Zaini Jass said on Dec 15, a man wearing a sweater and a cap was seen walking with a bottle, believed to be a Molotov cocktail, in his hand to the same building.

Several men, one of them carrying a jerrycan believed to be filled with petrol, seen in this clip walking to the restaurant.

The suspect placed the bottle at the staircase at the building and it exploded a short while later.

“Based on the description of witnesses, this suspect is believed to be in his 40s.

“The motive could be revenge but we are still investigating,” he told reporters here today. - FMT
