GEORGE TOWN: The family of the late consumer advocate SM Mohamed Idris today distanced itself from a 26-year-old family member over claims a senior politician committed immoral acts against him last year.
In a statement, Idris’ brother Mohideen Abdul Kader said Muhammad Yusoff Rawther’s claims were not known to any of his family members, despite being close to the family at one time.
Earlier today, Yusoff claimed at a press conference that a senior politician committed a crime he described as “un-Islamic, vile, insidious and morally repugnant” against him.
He also criticised authorities for not taking action over police reports he filed against Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak earlier this year.
Yusoff had been “estranged” from the family after his grandfather Idris died earlier this year, Mohideen said.
“The alleged incident is supposed to have taken place on Oct 2, 2018, more than one year ago. Yet none of our family members including his grandfather (Idris), who was very close to him, was told about it,” he said.
“Coming more than one year after the alleged incident, and two days before the PKR national congress, I believe that Yusoff has been manipulated by some politicians to serve their own interest,” he said, adding that he was confident Malaysians would reject such “gutter politics”.
Yusoff had previously accused Farhash, who is also the political secretary of Anwar Ibrahim, of assaulting him at the PKR president’s office in Petaling Jaya in May.
He said a police report was lodged following the incident, and in September, he filed a suit against Farhash and Anwar’s press aide.
FMT has contacted Yusoff and is awaiting his reply. - FMT
