2016 YouTube video of Mukhriz announcing his resignation goes viral

PETALING JAYA: A YouTube video of Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir announcing his resignation that has gone viral is not new.

This is because the one-minute 15-second video showing Mukhriz flanked by supporters was actually dated Feb 2, 2016.

It is believed that the video could have re-emerged following the resignation of Dr Maszlee Malik as the Education Minister earlier this week.

It was reported that Maszlee's replacement has been a hot topic with Mukhriz's name being the latest name to be thrown into the ring.

There were also "news reports" with Astro Awani logo that had gone viral saying that Jeli lawmaker Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamad together with Mukhriz would become the next Cabinet members.

It was also speculated that Guar Chempedak state assemblyman Datuk Wira Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail was tipped to Mukhriz's replacement.

Astro Awani has since denied reporting such news, stressing that the images and captions were edited by certain quarters and was never reported on any Astro Awani platform.

In February 2016, Mukhriz had resigned as Kedah Mentri Besar after the state underwent a fortnight of political crisis.

He was then replaced by Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, who was sworn in as the Mentri Besar a few days later.
