Afif says he will abide by decision of PKR disciplinary board

GEORGE TOWN: Former PKR deputy youth chief Dr Afif Bahardin, known to be a close ally of Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, has left his fate in the hands of the party's disciplinary board.
For now, the Seberang Jaya assemblyman said he would continue to fulfil his responsibility as an assemblyman and a state exco member in charge of health, agriculture and agro-based industry and rural development.
"I was issued a show cause letter (for creating chaos during the Youth congress in Melaka last December).
"I have replied last Wednesday and had also spoken to party president (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) on my stand during a meeting at the party headquarters last Sunday (March 1).
"I am a party man and will follow whatever decision made by the party disciplinary board.
"I cannot make any decision on my position in PKR now.
“If they want me to continue, I will continue and if they want to sack me, I will accept it, ” he said during a press conference after opening the Penang Hospital Advisory Panel Convention at Komtar on Tuesday (March 3).
On Sunday, a video of him being heckled and called a traitor by disgruntled PKR members went viral after a meeting with Anwar.
PKR vice-president Tian Chua was also seen in another video being assaulted by party members as he was escorted out of his car.
Asked if he would join Azmin, who was sacked as deputy president by PKR and joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Dr Afif said: "I am still here," adding that he is committed to the party's struggle.
“Many have asked about my commitment. All I can say is that my conscience is clear, my principles are clear.
"I am still here because of the responsibility entrusted by the people.
"I am also part of the state administration of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
"For now I would carry out my duties as usual," he added. - Star
