PN should worry about political appointments later, says Harapan

Malaysiakini

Pakatan Harapan has urged the federal government to leave political appointments alone for now and focus on the fight against the Covid-19 outbreak.
In a statement today, Harapan's presidential council said it was aware that there are terminations taking place in MaraResident Representative Councils (MPP) and Yayasan Kebajikan Negara, among others.
"Any political action (taken by the federal government now) will be misinterpreted by the federal government and cause public anger. It will also cause distractions from efforts to take on Covid-19 and heal the country.
"In view of this, the Harapan presidential council urges the prime minister to implement a moratorium on political actions. We need to work together for the country," said the council.
Meanwhile, the presidential council also urged Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to focus on the welfare of employees and help employers.
"We recommend that the government pay a minimum wage of RM1,200 to all small and medium enterprise workers and persuade landlords to provide a 50 percent discount for three months and a six-month moratorium on rental payments," said the council.
The council said the goal was to ensure employers do not retrench workers and that employees continue to get paid.
The council also urged the Health Ministry release Covid-19 infection numbers at the parliamentary constituency level to MPs who are urged to do what they can to help manage the outbreak.
As of last night, the Health Ministry has recorded 2,038 confirmed Covid-19 infections throughout the country. As of today, there are 25 deaths attributed to the virus. - Mkini
