KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah should remain as the opposition to play an effective check and balance role against the new Federal government, said Sabah Umno Youth Chief Abdul Aziz Julkarnain.

“As opposition, they have a big role for the rakyat to check and balance the Federal government administration.

“After all, the Warisan-PH-UPKO coalition is still the ruling state government,” he said in a Facebook post responding to rumours of Warisan likely joining Perikatan Nasional to become the government.

During the political turmoil, Warisan and its allies Upko and Pakatan Harapan had been firm in supporting Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the Prime Minister candidate.

Abdul Aziz added that Perikatan Nasional, which is made up of Umno, PPBM, Star, PBRS and MCA, should also reject Warisan as it had a different approach and thus would create conflict of interests with others.

He also said Warisan’s involvement in Perikatan Nasional would also retard the process of reviving Sabah as the former has a bad track record in administering the state.

“The Warisan government policies have been going against the community doctrine in Sabah especially with the ‘Sempornasiation’, proposal of the Sabah Temporary Pass, and ‘Sabah Kita Punya’ (Sabah is ours) tagline.

“The state is also governed in a ‘cowboy’ style where there were violations of law such as the appointment of the director of Sabah Water department, direct awards of billion-ringgit development projects without open tenders among others.”

Meanwhile, Warisan had yesterday denied rumours or claims of defections following changes in the federal government.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Loretto Padua Jr said all the state assemblymen and Warisan MPs have always stood by its principles and have high integrity and loyalty towards the party struggle.
