PERIKATAN Nasional and Pakatan Harapan should look into a multi-party deal to end the constant plotting to remain in power, said civil society groups tired of the politicking.
Bersih 2.0, Gabungan Bertindak Malaysia and Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia are concerned about the crossovers of MPs on both sides.
They are appealing to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is mounting moves to oust the former, and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, to end the political impasse.
Bersih 2.0 chairman Thomas Fann said in the last four months, they have seen crossovers that led to a change in government.
“The crossovers have brought down a federal government and four state governments and with talks of a counter coup, may continue to bring down more governments mid-term.
“There should not have been a change of government mid-term. This goes against the voters who voted them in.”
PARTI Warisan Sabah MPs today dismissed reports of defections from the party.
“We firmly deny such baseless rumours, and wish to make clear that the said reports and statements are entirely false,” they said in a joint statement.
Such “scandalous rumours of defection” reflect the Perikatan Nasional government’s “sheer desperation” to maintain its razor-thin majority before Parliament convenes next month, when a motion of no confidence is set to be tabled against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
“This seems to have sparked an unethical shopping spree of MPs. But not us. We will not betray the people’s mandate. We stand resolute on our principles,” said the lawmakers.
They also affirmed their support for Sabah Chief Minister and Semporna MP Mohd Shafie Apdal.
The MPs said they are focusing on important matters concerning their constituents and the country amid the Covid-19 crisis, noting that not much can be done without a Parliament sitting.
The statement was signed by Liew Vui Keong (Batu Sapi), Darell Leiking (Penampang), Mohamaddin Ketapi (Lahad Datu), Azis Jamman (Sepanggar), Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Kota Belud), Ma’mun Sulaiman (Kalabakan), Ahmad Hassan (Papar) and Rozman Isli (Labuan).
Harian Metro had reported that four Warisan MPs would quit the party to support PN. However, the article is no longer accessible on its portal. – THE MALAYSIAN INSIGHT
