Slander to say I'm sponsored by PKR - Chini indie candidate

Malaysiakini

CHINI POLLS | Chini by-election independent candidate Mohd Shukri Mohd Ramli has refuted allegations that he is being sponsored by PKR, reported The Star.
According to the article, Shukri (above) vowed to lodge reports with the police and Election Commission (EC) over social media “slander” claiming otherwise.
“The PKR logo was put under my photo while Bersatu's logo was placed under the second independent candidate’s (Tengku Zainul Hisham Tengku Hussin) photo.
“This is being made to confuse the voters in Chini as though I have been sponsored by PKR,” he was quoted as saying.
Previously a PKR member, Shukri’s membership had since been revoked. The report did not quote him on a reason.
In GE12, he contested in Kemayan under PKR while in GE13, he contested for the Semambu seat as an independent candidate against PKR’s Lee Chean Chung and MCA’s Pang Tsu Ming. He lost both times.
“I am contesting (this time) as an independent activist who has come here to defend the people and also to raise issues that have been overlooked. I am disappointed by this act of slander.
“Why do they have to slander an independent candidate who has no power to buy the people with money?” he told the daily.
Pahang PKR communications chief Wan Fauzuldin Wan Samad similarly denied that the party is backing Shukri, telling Sinar Harian that the blogger was no longer a member.
“We hope voters in Chini will be careful if they get information that PKR has approved or sponsored any independent candidates.
“Any independent candidate that sells the name of PKR needs to be rejected by voters, especially by PKR supporters, because it is obvious that the candidate is being dishonest with voters,” he was quoted as saying.
The Chini by-election was triggered by the death of its long-time Umno assemblyperson Abu Bakar Harun on May 6.
BN is fielding Mohd Sharim Md Zain (above, left) against Shukri and former Pekan Bersatu deputy chief Tengku Zainul (above, right).
The EC had set June 30 as the date for early voting, while polling is on July 4.
Chini is one of four state seats under the Pekan parliamentary constituency, which is held by former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
In GE14, Abu Bakar had retained the Chini seat with a 4,622-vote majority, beating PAS candidate Mohd Fadhil who received 5,405 votes, and Mohamad Razali Ithnain from PKR, who obtained just 1,065 votes. Chini has 20,900 registered voters. - Mkini
