CORONAVIRUS | Public schools nationwide will reopen on June 24 for students taking examinations.
Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said this was decided after taking into account the views and advice from the Health Ministry and National Security Council (NSC).
“The reopening date for students in public examination classes across the country, such as (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) SPM, (Sijil Vokasional Malaysia) SVM, (Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia) STPM and (Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia) STAM, as well as equivalent international examinations, will be on Wednesday, June 24,” the senior minister said.
The same goes for boarding schools in which only students from exam classes would be permitted to return to their dormitories. Beds are to be arranged one metre apart from each other.
As for the resumption of non-exam classes, he reiterated that schools would be reopened in stages and that any decision would be announced by the ministry at a later time.
“For the time being, lessons at home will continue. Seeing that teachers are back to school, teaching and learning approaches can be diversified with access to facilities available in schools.”
In making the online announcement today, Radzi urged all schools, parents, and related parties to abide by the guidelines released by the ministry last week pertaining to the reopening of the government, government-assisted, private, as well as other educational institutions registered with the ministry.
He added that the measures in the guidelines were tried out in 12 government schools and eight private institutions since May and that both the Health and Education Ministry as well as the NSC were satisfied with the trial.
Meanwhile, he said all outdoor activities such as assembly, sports, and curricular activities will not be permitted until a later date which would be announced.
