Perak opposition leader Abdul Aziz Bari has suggested that if Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu wanted to punch those who insult ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, he should consider punching his own face.
"The Perak MB is a joke. Perhaps he’s going to punch his own face because he is the one who backstabbed Mahathir and his son Mukhriz by running away to support Muhyiddin (Yassin).
"What (Ahmad Faizal) Azumu (above, right) has done is more serious than badmouthing the old man and his son," Aziz told Malaysiakini today, referring to the MB's switch of allegiance in which he broke up the state's Pakatan Harapan government and formed a new administration with his Perikatan Nasional allies.
Aziz (above, left), who is Tebing Tinggi assemblyperson, was responding to Ahmad Faizal's vow to defend Mahathir and Mukhriz from insults using his fists.
Faizal said that all Bersatu members must give "100 percent" of their support to party president Muhyiddin, while also showing respect to former leaders.
"If anyone insults Mahathir, says anything bad about Mukhriz, I will punch them. I am their champion," he said yesterday, adding that he was also saddened by the news that the former prime minister was expected to form a new party.
Aziz also went on to suggest that Ahmad Faizal might soon have more problems than preparing for a brawl.
"He had better sort out his own backyard now that Umno in Perak has told him to dissolve Bersatu," said Aziz.
Ahmad Faizal, who is Perak Bersatu chairperson, is helming the state government in Perak with just five seats, while Umno is the largest party in his coalition with 24 seats. - Mkini
