Ceiling price for 3-ply face masks to drop from RM1.20 to RM1

The government says the ceiling price of three-ply face masks will be reduced to RM1.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will further reduce the ceiling price of three-ply face masks from RM1.20 to RM1, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi told the Dewan Rakyat today.

“The price will drop further to RM1,” he said, adding that the government would continue reducing this from time to time.

However, he did not say when the new price would take effect.

He said this was to reduce the burden of parents who needed to buy face masks for their children, noting as well the mandatory use of face masks in public and crowded areas since Aug 1.

Chong Chieng Jen (PH-Stampin) said in an additional question that prices might still be high as face masks were also available for 40 sen.

To this, Linggi said the quality of such masks was questionable.

“We place a price for face masks after discussing with all quarters, including manufacturers and consumers,” he said.

He added that his ministry would review the situation and announce a further drop in price after discussions with stakeholders. - FMT
