Indira Gandhi to meet IGP on Sept 3, calls off planned hunger strike

Malaysiakini
M Indira Gandhi and her Indira Gandhi Action Team (Ingat) have called off a planned hunger strike after a date was set for a meeting with Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador to inform her about her long-lost daughter Prasana Diksa.
Ingat told Malaysiakini that the meeting has now been fixed for 9am on Sept 3 at Bukit Aman.
“Ingat is very pleased with the goodwill gesture from the IGP and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
“The meeting will be attended by Indira, Ambiga Sreenevasan, myself and Sachpreetraj Singh Sohanpal, Messrs Raj & Sach,” said Ingat chairperson Arun Dorasamy.
“We are looking forward to a complete discussion and briefing on the investigative updates since April 17, 2019, when the special task force to find Indira's daughter was formed," he said.
Arun said Ingat would like to get clarification on the Home Ministry's recent Parliament updates on Indira’s Case.
On Aug 12, Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin told Parliament that Indira's Muslim convert ex-husband, Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, was believed to be living abroad and regularly relocating to avoid detection.

Hamzah said the PDRM has visited Riduan's addresses as listed with the National Registration Department and found he no longer resided there and that his name had also been blacklisted in the records of the Immigration Department, to track and arrest him if he tries to flee abroad.
Arun said Ingat is ready to share some intelligence on the investigation and was looking forward to meeting the new officer in charge of the investigation.
"We hope this meeting will bring the case and the saga to closure as soon as possible.
"Eleven years, five IGPs, three governments and we are still unable to track or return Prasana as per the Federal Court order," he said.
Last month, Indira and Ingat said they were planning to hold a “happy ending hunger strike” at the grounds of federal police headquarters Bukit Aman on Sept 11 from 9am to 5pm if the IGP did not agree to meet them by Aug 31.
Back in January, the Hamid revealed that he knew the whereabouts of Indira’s former husband and had urged him to surrender himself.

This was despite an arrest warrant from the Federal Court for Riduan, who had taken Prasana with him.
The “happy ending” term derives from a previous comment Hamid made, indicating he hoped Riduan and Indira would be able to resolve their 10-year tussle over their daughter amicably.
Prasana was an infant when her father Riduan, previously named K Pathmanathan, took her away in 2009 after converting to Islam.
Riduan and Indira were later engaged in a tightly watched interfaith custody battle after he unilaterally converted Prasana and their two other children to Islam.
In 2014, the Ipoh High Court ordered the police to retrieve Prasana from her father. In 2016, the Federal Court ordered the IGP to arrest Riduan.
In 2018, the Federal Court unanimously ruled that unilateral conversions of children were unlawful as such decisions needed permission from both parents. It also issued an arrest warrant for Riduan.
