Musa Aman hopes court allows judicial review on Sabah assembly dissolution

Malaysiakini

The coalition of 33 Sabah assemblypersons led by former chief minister Musa Aman is hoping that the court will allow a judicial review of Governor Juhar Mahiruddin's decision to dissolve the state assembly.
Musa said the coalition believed that Juhar was wrongly advised in making the move.
"The coalition of 33 assemblypersons representing every political party that was in the 15th state legislative assembly remains steadfast in the struggle for truth and justice.
"It is our sincere hope that the court will allow a judicial review of the governor's decision to dissolve the Sabah state assembly as we believe he was wrongly advised," he said in a statement today.
The Sungai Sibuga assemblyperson and 32 others had filed a judicial review application at the Kota Kinabalu High Court to challenge the July 30 dissolution of the state assembly.
Juhar and incumbent chief minister Shafie Apdal (photo) were named as the first and second respondents.
Last month, the Warisan president announced the dissolution of the state assembly to make way for snap polls after receiving the consent of the governor.
This came after Musa claimed to have obtained a simple majority to form a new state government.
However, Musa failed to enter the Istana Negeri to meet Juhar.
The governor's private secretary had also issued a statement saying that Juhar never received the 33 statutory declarations from assemblypersons who backed Musa.
The state election is to be held within 60 days after the dissolution of the state assembly as stipulated by the state constitution.
Sabah's GDP growth lowest in M'sia
Musa said Shafie's Warisan state government had failed to develop Sabah.
"It's shameful that for the past two years in a row we are known as the state with the lowest GDP growth rate in the country.
"The lowest even when compared to the poorest state.
"The longer Shafie stays in power, Sabah will continue to languish in terms of economic development due to dwindling business activities and lack of foreign direct investments," he added.
He cited the Statistics Department's August report which stated that Sabah's GDP was at 0.5 percent last year.
"Unemployment stood at 5.8 percent - the worst in the past 20 years - meaning that more than 117,000 Sabahans were left jobless."
Musa said when Sabah was under his helm, the local economy flourished.
"Having steered Sabah in four general elections and helming the captain’s chair for 15 years, my government managed to stabilise and spur the local economy to new heights.
"We as a team have uplifted the dignity of Sabahans in the eyes of the country, if not the world. I will let the facts speak for itself," he added. - Mkini
