Search party could not find Nora Anne’s underwear, police chief tells inquest

Irish-French teenager Nora Anne Quoirin went missing a day after she and her family arrived at a Negeri Sembilan resort for a holiday in August last year.
SEREMBAN: The Coroner’s Court here was told today that after Irish-French teenager Nora Anne Quoirin’s body was found on Aug 13 last year, police continued their operation at the scene to search for her underwear.
The third witness in the inquest into the death of the teenager, Nilai police chief Mohd Nor Marzukee Besar, said the operation was carried out a day after Nora Anne’s nude body was found about 2.5 km from the resort where she and her family stayed.
“After returning from the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital on the night of Aug 13, I held a meeting with my search team because the investigating officer informed me the victim’s family disclosed that the teenager only had her underwear on the last time they saw her.
“The question on the whereabouts of her underwear remained because the body was naked, so I planned an operation to search for it the next day,” he said when testifying at the inquest which entered its third day.
Asked by deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad whether the item was found, he said it could not be located by the team of 361 personnel.
He said the search was only carried out for one day.
A total of 64 witnesses are being called to testify in the inquest before coroner Maimoonah Aid before it ends on Sept 4.
Nora Anne, 15, went missing on Aug 4 last year, a day after she and her family arrived in Malaysia for a two-week holiday at a resort in Pantai here, about 60km south of Kuala Lumpur.
Her body was found nine days later near a stream in a hilly area, about 2.5km from the resort.
A preliminary post-mortem report revealed that there were no criminal elements in her death and that she had died of gastrointestinal bleeding, due to prolonged stress and hunger. - FMT
