Yesterday the 9th of August was the 75th anniversary of the dropping of the second atomic bomb on Nagasaki in Japan in 1945.
The first atomic bomb was dropped three days earlier on August 6th, 1945 on the city of Hiroshima.
The original target for the second atomic bomb was the Japanese city of Kokura, an industrial city with a steel mill and Japan's largest torpedo manufacturing plant. However there was cloud cover over Kokura so the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki - the secondary target.
Japan surrendered two days later on 11th August, 1945 and the instruments of Japan's unconditional surrender were formally signed on 2nd September, 1945 on board the American battleship the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
Despite two atomic bombs the Japanese were still debating if they should surrender. In anticipation of Japan refusing to surrender the Americans had a third atomic bomb ready to be dropped on the 19th of August, 1945.
It was expected that the third atomic bomb would have been dropped on Kokura - the original target for the second atomic bomb. Hence Kokura is the luckiest city because it was saved twice (possibly) from being attacked with atomic bombs.
How do know all this? Some reading. Plus the following video :
Why so much interest in the Second World War? Because we have NOT COME OUT of the full effects of the 2nd world war yet.
Europe does not like Donald Trump because he wants to pull out American troops stationed in Europe since World War 2. Donald Trump wants to put real closure to World War 2.
Just like Donald Trump wants to formally end the Korean War (1952-54), which was also a left over from the post World War 2 big power rivalry.
A war is when human beings have an open license to kill other human beings. It is a reminder of the human capacity for insanity and barbarism. That is you too ok. Dont think too highly of yourself.
