GRS names Hajiji as new Sabah CM after BN makes way

 

Sabah BN has finally agreed to make way for the state's Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief Hajiji Mohd Noor to become the new chief minister.

Following this, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) announced that it had arrived at a consensus to name Hajiji as their chief minister candidate.

This was announced by Hajiji in a joint press conference with Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin at a hotel in Kota Kinabalu which was used as the command centre for PN during the state election.

"We have agreed in consensus that they name me as the chief minister of Sabah," he said.

"GRS, which comprises PN, BN, and PBS has agreed to form a new state government," he added.

Hajiji said they will fulfil the responsibility and mandate that the people had given to them as well as to ensure that Sabah will continue to progress.

When asked if he had received a call from the state palace to take his oath before the governor, Hajiji said they were informed about a swearing-in ceremony to be held tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Bung said he believed that after Hajiji has been sworn-in as the new chief minister, the new state government will be able to focus on taking care of the people.

"We will start working to ensure people receive the necessary attention from the government and no one should play politics anymore. We are focusing on the issues in Sabah," he said.

The idea of naming Hajiji as Sabah chief minister came from the PN chairperson - Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

BN initially objected to that proposal as it wanted Bung to be the next chief minister.

The Sabah polls on Sept 26 saw GRS winning a total of 38 seats out of 73, out of which, PN won 17, BN won 14, and PBS won seven.

GRS also claimed to have gained the support of all three independent candidates.

Warisan Plus itself won 29 seats, out of which Warisan won 23 and DAP won 6. Meanwhile, PKR won two seats and Upko secured one seat.
