SABAH POLLS | PKR president Anwar Ibrahim is on a whirlwind blitz to canvass for his party's candidates in the Sabah election, covering a total of seven constituencies in a single day.
According to Anwar's campaign schedule, he started his campaign this morning with a ceramah in Sook and Klias respectively.
He then moved on to the state seats of Matunggong and Tempasuk this afternoon for a meet-and-greet session respectively.
As he crisscrossed across the northern Sabah, Anwar also shared his progress on social media.
"In Sook this morning, I spoke about how the state is rich but its people live in poverty," he said in a Twitter post. Sook is a non-Muslim bumiputera-majority seat.
Anwar, who was campaigning for the party's Sook candidate Raymon Ahuar, stressed the need to elect leaders who will ensure the state's revenue reach to the people.
In Klias, a Muslim bumiputera-majority seat, Anwar spoke about unity.
"Our struggle is not to promote anyone's ethnic group or race, what is important is the leader's integrity," he said in urging voters to vote for PKR's Abdul Rahman Yakub.
Then in Matunggong, another non-Muslim bumiputera-majority seat, Anwar reiterated his message about equitable distribution of the state's wealth.
PKR's Sazalye Donol is contesting in the Matunggong.
He then campaigned in Tempasuk, a Muslim bumiputera constituency being contested by PKR's Mustapha Mohd Yunus Sakmud and will later head to Tamparuli, a non-Muslim bumiputera seat contested by the party's Alijus @ Mohd Ali Sipil.
PKR lost in Matunggong, Tempasuk and Tamparuli in the last general election while Sook and Klias were ceded by its ally Warisan in this election.
Anwar's events across all seven constituencies contested by PKR are only one the two hours apart, suggesting that he was likely travelling by air. Some of the events are four hours apart on the road.
Anwar is expected to cap off his campaign the state seat of Api-Api and Inanam tonight, the only two seats PKR won in the 2018 general election.
Api-Api is a mixed-race seat which is being defended by Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew.
However, Anwar will have some explaining to do in the non-Muslim bumiputera seat of Inanam, which also has a substantial Chinese population.
PKR's Inanam assemblyperson Kenny Chua had defected to support former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman failed coup against the Warisan Plus government. PKR sacked Chua following the defection.
Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal, who is also the Warisan president, thwarted the coup by securing a dissolution of the state assembly, paving the way to fresh polls.
Campaigning for the Sabah election began on Sept 12 and polling day is on Sept 26. A total of 73 seats are up for grabs. - Mkini
