One-minute silence in memory of Covid-19 victims tonight

Medical associations around the world are expected to observe a one-minute silence beginning 9pm today to remember colleagues and citizens who have passed on during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) president Dr N Ganabaskaran said healthcare workers are encouraged to join the commemoration, which is being called by the Commonwealth Medical Association.

"The MMA encourages all healthcare workers to dedicate this one minute today at the appointed time, to remember healthcare workers, colleagues and citizens who have passed on during this pandemic and pray for the eternal repose of their great souls," he said in a statement.

Malaysia has recorded 10,167 cases cumulatively and the death toll was 130 as of Sept 19, 2020.

On a global scale, about 30.3 million people had contracted the virus while about 948,795 deaths were reported as of Sept 19, 2020, according to the World Health Organisation.  - Mkini
